About the St. Mary's Fort Project

Digging Maryland's colonial beginnings

What We Study

Excavations at St. Mary's Fort investigate the earliest years of colonial life in Maryland (1634–ca.1644). The project also studies interactions between European colonizers and the region's indigenous peoples, and how these interactions shaped intercultural relations for years to come.
